The year 2011 has been definitely a bumper year for Turkish Startups. Coming events cast their shadows before.  By the end of 2010,  news coming from Tiger Global – Trendyol relationship was only a foreshadow of developments occurred in 2011. This year we also witnessed the peak point: Naspers investment in Markafoni. No need to emphasize that both Trendyol and Markafoni are private shopping sites.

 

We prepared a reference article for you listing some of the most remarkable investments in Turkish Startups:

 

December 2010

Tiger Global invests 10 million $ in private shopping club Trendyol in exchange of 36% of the company.

 

February 2011 

Social gaming startup Peak Games raises 1.5 million $ from Hummingbird Ventures in exchange of 20% of  its share.

 

March 2011

Intel Capital buys 8.5 % of Nokta  investing 2,5 million $.

 

May 2011 

Mekanist.net (Turkish Yelp or Qype) raises 2,5 million $ from Pond Ventures.

eBay buys %97 of GittiGidiyor.com (Turkish eBay), valuing it over 200 million $.

Hummingbird Ventures invests another 5 million $ in Peak Games.

 

June 2011 

Private shopping club Vipdukkan.com raises 5 million $ from ePlanet Capital in exchange of 21,5% of the company.

 

July 2011

MIH Allegro (Naspers) acquires %70 of  Turkish leading private shopping company Markafoni, valuing it over 200 million $.

 

August 2011 

Grupanya.com, one of the leading group buying companies in Turkey, is valued at 40 million $ by Intel Capital, according to Webrazzi.com.

Trendyol raises another 26 million $ from Tiger Global.

 

September 2011 

Marketplace Tinypay.me raises 1 million $ investment from Aksoy Internet Ventures.

 

October 2011

Hummingbird Ventures and Earlybird Venture Capital invests another 11,5 million $ in Peak Games.
